Flying Hearts, First Audience! - 2018

Cathy has composed scores for over 70 productions of TYA across Canada from 1986 to the  present. Her work in TYA began in 1985 with Manitoba Theatre For Young People (formerly  Actors Showcase) and continued with the company for twenty seven seasons as a composer, live musician and sound designer. MTYP flagship shows include Comet In Moominland (2007  DORA award - Outstanding Production TYA), Old Friends (2008 Chalmers Canadian Play  Award TYA), The Odyssey co-produced with The Banff Centre and Rick:The Rick Hansen Story commissioned for the Vancouver Cultural Olympiad. 

Cathy’s work has been heard at Young People’s Theatre in over 25 productions including  Seesaw, Where The Wild Things Are, The Ice Cream Store and More (M.T.Y.P.), L’Envol de  l’Ange (DynamO Théâtre) Here to Hear (Carousel Players) and 9 productions for Young People’s  Theatre including Jack and the Bean, Munschtime! and i think i can (2007 DORA nomination for Outstanding Sound Design/Composition). 

Cathy’s association with Theatre Direct has spanned thirty years having scored Icetime by  Carol Bolt (1988), Alphonse (2004) and most recently Flying Hearts a co-creation by Lynda Hill  and choreographer Michelle Silagy created especially for children and youth of all abilities.  Flying Hearts was nominated for a 2018 DORA award Outstanding Performance, Ensemble -  TYA.
